The sun just burped.
Again.
From Wikipedia, I read how, just before noon on September 1, 1859, the British astronomer Richard Carrington observed a large solar flare, which caused a major coronal mass ejection (CME) to travel directly toward Earth, taking 17 hours to get here. Such a journey normally takes three to four days…
The next day, the largest recorded geomagnetic storm occurred. Aurorae were seen around the world, even over the Caribbean. Those over the Rocky Mountains were so bright their glow awoke gold miners, who began preparing breakfast because they thought it was morning. People who happened to be awake in the northeastern US could read a newspaper by the aurora's light.
Telegraph systems all over Europe and North America failed, in some cases shocking telegraph operators. Telegraph pylons threw sparks and telegraph paper spontaneously caught fire. Some telegraph systems continued to send and receive messages despite having been disconnected from their power supplies.
On September 3, 1859, the Baltimore American and Commercial Advertiser reported, "Those who happened to be out late on Thursday night had an opportunity of witnessing another magnificent display of the auroral lights. The phenomenon was very similar to the display on Sunday night, though at times the light was, if possible, more brilliant, and the prismatic hues more varied and gorgeous. The light appeared to cover the whole firmament, apparently like a luminous cloud, through which the stars of the larger magnitude indistinctly shone. The light was greater than that of the moon at its full, but had an indescribable softness and delicacy that seemed to envelop everything upon which it rested. Between 12 and 1 o'clock, when the display was at its full brilliancy, the quiet streets of the city resting under this strange light, presented a beautiful as well as singular appearance."
Well, today is September 1, 2012. Interestingly, for the past couple of days, I have been following - trying to follow - this story but have found very FEW online reports having to do with this event.
Have YOU heard anything?
Not from the major media, that's for sure!
Today, however, I WAS able to locate an increasing number of reports, but none in the major media.
According to someone calling himself "SolarWatcher," his YouTube video said, "a spectacular Magnetic Filament Eruption located in the southeastern limb has erupted sending a huge Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) heading for the Earth. The plasma -filled feature, stretched hundreds of thousands of kilometers across the sun, became unstable and exploded. CME impact is expected late SEPTEMBER 2nd and strong Geomagnetic storms will be possible.
"CME's are directly related to weather-related phenomena, Halo CME's related to strong cyclonic storms, typhoons, hurricanes and these rare type of explosive CME's as in this video are more energetic and do have symmetry with Volcanic Eruptions and very large impulsive Earthquakes here on the earth. Prior to many large volcanic eruptions one will find these sorts huge CME's preceding such events."
Now, no one can say for sure what kind of an impact a CME is going to have on planet Earth until it actually hits. If a CME is going to be a "grid killer," we won't know until after the fact. Some say they expect a mere "glancing blow" while others report this CME as being "earth directed." How bad is a glancing blow anyway? All I can say regarding these report is , even though the boy cried 'wolf' one too many times, eventually, there real WAS a wolf!
One last comment: were you aware of a CME that hit China between Feb 13 and 17, 2011? Me neither, not until I took my HAM radio course in July 2012. The China Meteorological Administration reported the solar flare had jammed shortwave radio communications in southern China. Ground to air, ship to shore, shortwave broadcast and amateur radio are vulnerable to disruption during such geomagnetic storms. Navigation systems like GPS, cell phones and other electronic gizmos can also be adversely affected, too. If you go to YouTube, search "Faraday Cage" and "How to survive an EMP" or "How to survive a CME" and you'll find plenty of ideas! TIP: a microwave is a great place to keep your electronics safe.
Tell your friends.
Where preparation is concerned, remember "FEPS." Financial, Emotional Practical, and Spiritual preparedness.
Every blessing,
Michael Tummillo
